To meet the future requirements of the Electricity Grid while efficiently managing our assets, Origin Energy decided to upgrade existing 26 MVA Generating Units with a new higher rated Gas turbine capable of faster starts and clutch-less Synchronous condenser operation.  To make this upgrade cost effective the decision was made to retain the existing Generator operating at a higher MW output and rotating in the reverse direction.

This presentation will discuss the challenges and decisions required with implementing and commissioning the first of these upgrades.
